Typography Project Overview
Four distinct learning modules divide the semester each with a dedicated project and smaller exercises that support the module objectives:
-
The basic unit of the letter: its construction, its component parts, type styles, faces and families, historical context, fonts and character sets
-
The word as building block: spatial relationships, legibility, word/symbol integration, visual form and literal meaning, figurative typography, type appropriateness, logotypes
-
Text and the page: display and text type, typographic color, readability, page composition, typesetting, page layout, use of grids, typographic hierarchy, multiple readings, multiple pages.
-
Order and Harmony: experimental type, relationship between the ‘verbal’ messages (representation of the spoken word) and the ‘visual’ messages.
